Details

We’re inviting you to our first LSE Women in Philosophy Conference, which is taking place on 5th – 7th July 2021 on Zoom. It is free and all are welcome to register for the conference.

Over the course of three days, we have arranged for a number of talks, student panels and discussion groups on a range of topics in the Philosophy of the Natural and Social Sciences, given by world-leading women philosophers.

The aim of this conference is to break past the historical perception of Philosophy as a discipline that, in the West at least, has boasted but a handful of women philosophers, if any. Even at undergraduate level, most, if not all in some cases, of the philosophers studied are men. We hope that this conference can illuminate the significant contributions women have made in contemporary philosophy and inspire prospective women students of the current changing academic landscape.

We will also be hosting a number of panels with current philosophy students at LSE to give an insight into studying philosophy at university, and in particular, at the LSE. People can choose to come to as many or as few of the talks and events as they wish, registration is free and is available via EventBrite. Zoom links are available once you’ve signed up on EventBrite. For more information regarding the speakers and events, we have a dedicated events page on Facebook for the conference.

To highlight the main points of the conference:

We have organised a panel with current women philosophy students to provide an insight into studying philosophy at LSE, at university and in conjunction with other subjects, namely economics and/or politics.

The aims of this conference are to give an insight into historically male-dominated, but increasingly relevant fields in the philosophy of the natural and social sciences by the most prominent women philosophers in this field. This, we hope, will inspire future philosophy students and philosophers and push past the historical stereotype philosophy has as an academic discipline.

If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to contact us at [email protected]

We hope to see you (virtually) in our conference.

Best wishes,

LSESU Philosophy Society
