Details

The conference Living in the New Era 【时代・新生】 (Acronym LINE) aims to explore the world generated by the introduction of new digital technologies with a specific focus on the Chinese digitally embedded society through transdisciplinary collaborations with researchers working in China and Italy.

LINE wants to be the red thread connecting China to other countries focusing on the use of humanities like philosophy, history, and literature as a key element to understand and explore the effects of the introduction of new digital technologies in society. LINE is the first of a series of international events organized by the School of Humanities at SJTU within the International Forum for the New Humanities 【‘探索新文科’国际人文论坛】 using the humanities to analyze what the new era is and how it is shaped.

This year, LINE2021 aims at enmeshing the work of researchers in academia and science-fiction novelists to explore and analyze the changes and challenges we are facing. LINE2021 welcomes contributions addressing the body's role in its relations to digital technologies from researchers and novelists working in Italy and China. Topics of interest are the way our bodily life is affected by the use of digital technologies, how we think of our place in society, how we relate to others the moment digital technologies are used to mediate everyday bodily interactions, and how does the technology autonomously act as bodies in the world. LINE2021 is also interested in more general contributions which explore the New Era generated by the introduction of digital technologies.

The international Journal Prometeica (indexed in A&HCI and SSCI) will publish a special issue based upon the conference papers selected through a blind peer review process. (https://prometeica.com/index_en.html)

The conference will be held the 26-28 November 2021 at the School of Humanities (Minhang Campus, Shanghai, China). It will be a hybrid conference enabling the Italian attendees and speakers to join remotely.
