Reflections on Identity: Greek Philosophy and Weltanschaaung from ‘Byzantine’ Times to Today’s Greece in Crisis

Berlin, June 12th 2013

The Department of Philosophy, Pedagogy and Psychology of the National and Kapodistrian University Athens, the Hellenic Student’s Association of Berlin and the Greek Cultural Foundation (Berlin office) announce the International Conference:

“Reflections on Identity: Greek Philosophy and Weltanschaaung from ‘Byzantine’ Times to Today’s Greece in Crisis”

The Conference will be held on Wednesday, June 12th 2013 at the Greek Cultural Foundation (Berlin Office, Wittenbergplatz 3a, 10789 Berlin, Germany, 2nd floor). The Conference Languages are English, German and Greek.

The question of (Modern) Greek identity is timely. The political events of the previous years have brought up yet again the question: What does it actually mean to be a Greek today? This Conference will endeavor to go into the timely nature of this question and to provide an answer to it by tracing the line from the ‘Byzantine’ Empire of New Rome – Constantinople to Modern Greek culture.

At the Conference will participate as guest speakers, among others, Prof. DDr. Dr.h.c. Christos Yannaras (Panteion University of Athens), Prof. Dr. Jürgen Pelzer (Oxy, Los Angeles), Prof. Dr. Ilias Papagiannopoulos (University of Pireaus), Prof. Dr.  Georgios Steiris (University of Athens), Prof. Dr. Georgios Arampatzis (University of Athens).
