5th Ancient Philosophy and Science Workshop
for Women*, Non-Binary, and LGBTQIA+ Graduate Students and ECRs
7–8 July 2022, Humboldt-Universitaet zu Berlin
We welcome high-quality submissions for the 5th Ancient Philosophy and Science Workshop for women*, non-binary, and LGBTQIA+ graduate students and early career researchers, which will take place in Berlin on 7–8 July 2022. The goal of the workshop is to provide a platform for young scholars to present their work to peers. Members of underrepresented minorities, women*, non-binary, and LGBTQIA+ scholars (graduate students and early-career researchers) are highly encouraged to apply.
This workshop is organized by the initiative Women* in Ancient Philosophy and sponsored by the Research Training Group Philosophy, Science and the Sciences at Humboldt-Universitaet zu Berlin. This event provides an opportunity for young scholars to present and discuss their research in a safe and supportive environment, to share experience and advice, and to make new contacts in their field. The workshop features two plenary talks by distinguished keynote speakers:
Rachana Kamtekar (Cornell) & Laurence Totelin (Cardiff).
Abstracts (300 words) can be on any topic in Ancient Philosophy or Ancient Science, in the spirit of interdisciplinarity.
Format: This will be a pre-read conference. Selected speakers will be asked to send us their complete papers (3000 words max) by 19 June, so that they can be circulated among the participants with due time in advance. Sessions will last 75 minutes (15 minutes summary + 60 minutes discussion). Accommodation and travel expenses will be covered for all speakers by Humboldt-Universitaet. We strongly encourage everyone involved to participate in-person, but given the current global health situation, the conference will have a hybrid format to enable speakers and audience to participate remotely.
Submission deadline: 21 April 2022.
Please send the following to: [email protected] in .pdf format:
(1) A cover letter containing your name, institutional affiliation, contact information, and the title of your paper.
(2) An abstract (300 words max) of your paper with no identifying information.
We will send out notifications by the first week of May.
