CALL FOR PAPERS

On the 12th and 13th of September 2022, the Department of Political and Social Sciences, University of Pavia (Italy), under the joint patronage of the Italian Society for Political Philosophy and the Italian Society for Analytic Philosophy, will host the 20th edition of the Pavia Graduate Conference in Political Philosophy. The conference is held within the framework of the PhD Program in Philosophy of the North-west Italy Philosophy Consortium (FINO), with the sponsorship of the Compagnia di San Paolo, Turin. This two-day conference is meant to offer graduate students an opportunity to present papers, get helpful feedback in a friendly atmosphere, and exchange ideas both with peers and with leading academics in the field of political philosophy. In addition to parallel sessions devoted to students’ presentations, there will also be two plenary sessions. Plenary speakers in past editions have been: Hillel Steiner, Anna Elisabetta Galeotti, Peter Jones, Gianfrancesco Zanetti, Jonathan Wolff, Michele Nicoletti, Philippe Van Parijs, Sebastiano Maffettone, Giovanni Giorgini, Andrew Williams, David Miller, Alessandro Ferrara, Valeria Ottonelli, Adam Swift, Gerald Gaus, Serena Olsaretti, Thomas M. Scanlon, Philip Pettit, Carla Bagnoli, Thomas Christiano, Furio Cerutti, Fabienne Peter, Antonella Besussi, Andrea Sangiovanni, Mario De Caro, Cécile Laborde, Luigi Caranti, Margaret Moore, Cécile Fabre, Victor Tadros, Emanuela Ceva, Gianfranco Pellegrino and Alessandra Tanesini. This year’s keynote speakers are:

Miriam Ronzoni (University of Manchester)

Massimo Renzo (King’s College London)

Graduate students interested in giving papers should send their contributions (max 2500/3000 words – in English) accompanied by a short abstract (max 300 words – in English) and a curriculum vitae, by Monday 9 May 2022. Papers may focus on any area within political philosophy, and presentations should take no longer than twenty minutes to allow at least another twenty minutes of discussion. Papers must be prepared for blind review and files must be anonymized.

The conference will be held on premises, and all speakers will be expected to be in Pavia for the duration of the conference. Online participation will be possible, but only for participants who are not presenting a paper.

Conference registration is free of charge. Accommodation in university colleges is available to paper givers. Accommodation fees and details will be arranged individually. Details about meal arrangements and conference programme to follow.

EVALUATION OF SUBMISSIONS

Submissions will be evaluated by the organizing committee, composed of FINO PhD students and faculty members. To avoid any conflict of interests, submissions from FINO PhD students will be evaluated separately and will be allocated a limited quota of places in the conference.

TWENTIETH ANNIVERSARY PRIZE

To mark the twentieth anniversary of this graduate conference, the organizing committee will award a prize to the best submission by a non-FINO PhD student. The prize will consist in payment of the cost of travel to and from the conference up to a maximum of 200 euros, plus free college accommodation and meals during the conference.
