The Institute for the History and Philosophy of Science and Technology (IHPST) at the University of Toronto is pleased to announce our annual graduate conference. This year our theme is The Written Word.

Written communication is a vital component of how knowledge is spread. Literature, in every sense of the word, plays an important role in the production, circulation, and application of knowledge in science, medicine, and technology. How is knowledge disseminated within and beyond the limits of individual disciplines and to whom? What skills are required to effectively communicate with an intended audience? Does fiction have a place in the discussion of and reaction to advances in science?

The IHPST conference will take place on Friday, May 5 and Saturday, May 6, 2023. We will be running the conference hybrid, and though there is no conference fee, we are unable to cover travel or accommodation costs.
