Details

The Cold War in America saw a general social mobilization to fight the “Communist threat.” This mobilization affected all areas of American life. Not only the military and the CIA, but universities, religions, and culture generally—especially the mass media of films, novels, and television—were reshaped in the course of it. I have traced some of the effects of this Cold War mobilization on analytical philosophy in two books (Time in the Ditch, 2000, and The Philosophy Scare, 2016). Here I will discuss its implications for continental philosophy, which are in my opinion much more dire.
