Attention and salience help to guide us through an otherwise cluttered world. Attention directs us either consciously or unconsciously to certain agents, objects, features and events while salience determines what appears to us as striking. This year’s conference aims to tackle questions such as: What constitutes different forms of attention and salience? What is the role of attention and salience in guiding our actions and communication? What are the epistemic, social and ethical underpinnings of attention and salience?
We welcome submissions on any topic related to our theme including but not limited to:
• Agency and Attention in Action
• Cognitive and Perceptual Theories of Attention
• The Epistemic Role of Attention and Salience
• Social and Political Factors of Attention and Salience
Length: Maximum of 500 words, suitable for a 25-30min presentation (45min including Q&A)
Deadline: April 15, 2023
Submission: Please submit a PDF of your anonymized abstract to [email protected] with the subject line “WFAP 2023 Abstract Submission”, along with a cover sheet containing your name, email-address and institutional affiliation.
All abstracts will be reviewed by members of the Vienna Forum for Analytic Philosophy. Accepted papers should be suitable for a 25-30min. presentation. If you have any questions regarding our conference, please don’t hesitate to write to [email protected].
We especially welcome and encourage submissions from members of under-represented groups in philosophy!
