On Friday, August 9, the Department of Philosophy at the University of Sydney will be hosting a workshop on Hegel’s Logic to coincide with a visit by Professor Michael Quante.


Professor Quante is University Professor of Philosophy at the Westfälische Wilhelms-Universität, Münster and author of many works on Hegel including Hegel’s Philosophy of Action, (Cambridge University Press, 2004). He is also co-editor, with Dean Moyar, of Hegel’s Phenomenology of Spirit: A Critical Guide (Cambridge University Press, 2008), and editor of the journal Hegel-Studien.

The workshop will take the form of a series of presentations on various aspects of Hegel’s logic, each followed by discussion. Presentations will include:

Damion Buterin, (Macquarie University), on Hegel on the category of singularity
Byron Clugston, (University of Sydney), on Hegel on judgment.
Giovanna Miolli, (University of Padua), on Hegel on truth.
Michael Quante, on Hegel’s objective logic
Paul Redding (Univ of Sydney), on Hegel’s attitude to formal logic.
