On behalf of "MechLab" (Laboratory for the Philosophy of Technology), we are pleased to announce the international conference Hand, Brain and Speech, to be held in Naples (25-27 October 2003). We invite contributions on the following topics: 1) Palaeontology of Technology and Language: The origin of language and technology as vectors of anthropogenesis, above all as regards palaeontology, as well as cultural and philosophical anthropology. 2) Philosophy of Mind: The analysis of the mind in its multifaceted aspects (e.g. the mind-body relation, neuro-reductionism), to be addressed according different traditions (contintental and analytic philosophy, phenomenology) and authors. 3) Neurology and cognitive sciences: The study of the brain, with emphasis on its link with motion (and/or action) and language. 4) Philosophy of Language: The analysis of language as the basis of anthropogenesis, to be addressed from the standpoint of different traditions (continental and analytic philosophy, phenomenology) and authors.

Abstracts must not exceed 500 words. Proposals (in Word format) must be sent to this address: [email protected]. The deadline for submissions is 31 July 2023. Early notifcation of acceptance will be given by 10 August 2023. Presentations will last about 35 minutes (25 minutes for the talk plus 10 minutes for the debate). The official languages are English and Italian, but speakers can also present in German.
