How does consciousness connect to the physical world? Philosopher Philip Goff (Durham University) is a defender of panpsychism, the view that consciousness pervades the universe and is a fundamental feature of it. Physicist Sean Carroll (Johns Hopkins University) thinks that the evidence supports materialism, the view that consciousness will one day be explained in terms of physical processes in the brain. In this public debate, Goff and Carroll will defend their rival views before answering audience questions.
