Details

The Department of Philosophy at the University of Nottingham (with generous support from the Society for Applied Philosophy) is organising a conference on applied ethics (broadly construed). The aim is to provide a forum for doctoral students and early-career researchers to share and scrutinise each other’s work on topics in applied ethics. We invite submission of abstracts for papers in a wide range of areas including, but not limited to.

·       Ethics of race, culture, and nationality

·       Feminist ethics

·       Social, legal, and political ethics

·       Human rights

·       Animal rights / welfare ·

       LGBTQ+ ethics

·       Sexual ethics

·       Medical ethics / bioethics

·       Technological ethics

·       Business ethics

·       Journalism ethics

·       Educational ethics

·       Environmental ethics

We are especially interested in work which ranges across multiple areas of applied ethics, or which investigates links between applied ethics and other areas of philosophy.

Keynotes: Ruth Chadwick (Cardiff) Gerald Lang (Leeds)   Please send anonymised abstracts of up to 250 words to [email protected] by 17:00 BST on 31st October 2023. Please indicate, in the email not the text of the abstract, your status (i.e. either that you’re a graduate student or on what basis you take yourself to be early career).   The conference will be hybrid with presentations largely in person (but there may be limited options to present online). Please include a request to present online in your abstract if you require this. We have bursaries available to help contribute towards the cost of travel and subsistence for presenters.
