Details

Artificial intelligence (AI) refers to a system which displays goal-oriented problem-solving, situational adaptation, experiential learning, and decision-making with at least a minimum level of autonomy. These characteristics of so-termed intelligent behavior have previously been associated with the cognitive functions of living beings but are now generated through machine learning. AI can process, analyze, and classify vast quantities of data more quickly than humans, and excels at finding patterns and making accurate predictions. Which begs the question: “what should we do with AI at work?” The deployment of AI has implications for both the conditions and the value of work. The aim of this conference is to advance research on the philosophy of AI and work, anchored in an ethical framework. It brings together three lines of inquiry: the history of the debate on technological replacement, working conditions with AI, and transformations in equity and justice at work.
