THE 17TH ANNUAL MARK L. SHAPIRO GRADUATE PHILOSOPHY CONFERENCE

Hosted by the Department of Philosophy at Brown University on Feb 17-18, 2024

Special topic: Philosophy and the Real World

We welcome submissions on the special topic, broadly construed, in any area of philosophy.

Topics may include, by no means exhaustively: what is the relevance of philosophy to practical action in the "real world", how to engage non-philosophers, how to engage in public philosophy, topics in applied ethics and social and political philosophy, non-ideal vs. non-ideal and applied vs. abstract theorizing, questions raised by the natural and social sciences, etc...

We also invite submissions of high quality work in any area of philosophy to be considered for presentation.

The submission deadline is January 8th at 11:59pm Eastern. Decisions will be sent by Jan 20. Submissions must be prepared for anonymous review, must not exceed 3,500 words of body text, and must be accompanied by a short abstract of about 200 words. Only one submission per person will be considered. To submit your work, or ask any questions, please email Marc Hewitt, Meredith Gilman, and Nicolas Heliotis at [email protected]

(There may be an option to be housed during the conference with Brown graduate students. Please contact organizers if interested)
