In the past two decades, a fresh approach to studying nineteenth-century philosophy has emerged, leading scholars to dub the period from 1860 to 1918 as the “era of Neo-Kantianism”.

The Neo-Kantians occupy a significant intellectual space where both analytical and continental philosophical traditions intersect. This convergence has captured the attention of scholars who perceive the Neo-Kantian movement as a possible shared genesis for these diverse streams of thought. Thus, understanding Neo-Kantianism is crucial for unraveling the origins of contemporary philosophy and dispelling myths surrounding the divide. Moreover, beyond providing a deeper insight into nineteenth-century philosophy, there is a growing recognition of the profound philosophical significance inherent in studying the Neo-Kantian movement. Neo-Kantians didn’t merely influence subsequent thinkers; they actively enriched philosophical discourse by offering unique perspectives on subjects such as subjectivity, transcendental philosophy, the methodology of philosophical historiography, and the philosophy of culture.

With the aim of strengthening this specific conception that we have mentioned, and in honor of the centenary of the death of the Neo-Kantian philosopher Paul Natorp (1854-1924), the Study Group of Critical Idealism (Diego Portales University) and the Kantian Studies Group (University of Buenos Aires) organize a virtual conference on the philosophy of Paul Natorp, which will take place between December 4th and 6th.

We invite scholars, researchers, and students to submit proposals for papers addressing various aspects of Natorp’s thought and its relevance in the contemporary philosophical landscape. Participants are invited to submit abstracts of up to 300 words by August 1st, 2024. Proposals will be evaluated by an academic committee, and selected authors will be notified by August 15th, 2024. For further information and to submit proposals, please contact: Dr. Jacinto Páez Bonifaci ([email protected]) or Dr. Laura Pelegrín ([email protected]).
