Details

The Center for the Study of Scottish Philosophy (CSSP, formerly the Institute for the Study of Scottish Philosophy) will host a workshop on the Philosophical Writings of Scottish Women. The workshop will be held on November 2, 2024 at the Lincoln Center campus of Fordham University, in New York City. We hope to support the research being done on figures like Mary Shepherd, while also introducing philosophers to writers like Joanna Baillie, Mary Brunton, Elizabeth Hamilton, Jean Marishall, Margaret Oliphant, and Frances Wright, in the hope of encouraging further interest in the intellectual and philosophical contributions of Scottish women.

Confirmed participants include Deborah Boyle (College of Charleston), JoEllen DeLucia (Central Michigan University), and Don Garrett (NYU). This workshop will be a pre-read event with limited space.
