The Ancient Philosophy Society for the Study of Ancient Greek and Roman Thought will be hosting an online panel on the subject of homecoming (nostos) featuring Jenny Strauss Clay, Chelsea Harry, and Michael Shaw (September 14th, 12pm EDT/GMT-4).     NOSTOS: An APS Panel Discussion    with   Jenny Strauss Clay (University of Virginia), "Penelope's Nostos: Weaving Wor[l]ds" ;  Chelsea Harry (Southern Connecticut State University), "Sappho and Coming Again";   Michael Shaw (Utah Valley University), "Empedocles on Ogygia."   “Nostos” means “homecoming” in Ancient Greek and is a foundational concept in Ancient Greek culture: Homer’s Odyssey is the epic tale of Odysseus’ Nostos after the Trojan War, defining his role as a hero. The presentations in this panel explore the meaning of Nostos from the perspective of Penelope in Homer, in the poetic songs of Sappho, and in the poetic text of Empedocles.   Please email Jessica Decker at [email protected] to register and receive the Zoom link
