Abstract:

Charles Sanders Peirce’s triadic semiotics (chance, rules, and creativity) is the foundation of my framework. I argue that role-playing games are a form of playful community inquiry that explores the psychology and ideologies of the players. I also highlight some connections between Peirce’s semiotics and the semiotics of psychoanalytic frameworks, such as Carl Jung (psychology) and Jacques Lacan (ideology).
