2nd ENPM Conference 2025 - AI in Music: Creation, Performance and Interpretation
European Network for the Philosophy of Music (ENPM)
September 25–27, 2025 | Strasbourg, France
The European Network for the Philosophy of Music (ENPM) invites submissions of paper abstracts for its second conference, hosted by the Centre de Recherche et d’Expérimentation sur l’Acte Artistique (CREAA) of the University of Strasbourg, from September 25–27, 2025 in Strasbourg (France). The conference is organized in partnership with the Festival Musica Strasbourg, a yearly festival dedicated to contemporary music, which will take place concurrently with the conference.
The 2025 Edition of the Festival will highlight the intersections between music and artificial intelligence. The ENPM welcomes submissions on any topic in the philosophy of music. However, to foster cooperation with the Festival Musica, the ENPM encourages submissions focused on the relationship between music and AI, from a philosophical perspective.
Confirmed Keynote Speakers:
- Lydia Goehr, Professor of Humanities, Department of Philosophy, Columbia University
- Alexander Schubert, Contemporary Composer and Professor at Musikhochschule Hamburg (premiering a new work at the Festival Musica 2025)
The ENPM Conference will also feature two sessions of the Music and Action conference, co-organized by Alessandro Bertinetto (University of Turin) and Daniel Martin Feige (Staatliche Akademie der Bildenden Künste Stuttgart).
Accepted papers will be eligible for publication associated with the conference. Authors will receive full membership to the ENPM and be invited to attend the ENPM Plenary Assembly. No conference fee will be charged to speakers or attendees.
Submission Guidelines:
- We invite submissions of abstracts for a 25-minute presentation followed by a 20-minute discussion.
- Papers on any topic within the philosophy of music are welcome, with an emphasis on submissions addressing the relationship between music and AI.
- Submissions must be long abstracts (800-1200 words), outlining the main ideas of the paper and key supporting arguments or evidence.
- Abstracts must be submitted in English and prepared for anonymous review (remove all references to authors from the text, bibliography, and metadata).
- Deadline for submissions: 15th January 2025
- Decisions expected by: 25th March 2025
