The 2nd Annual Susanne E. Foster Graduate Philosophy Conference will be held on Saturday, April 5th, 2025 as a hybrid in-person/online conference. The in-person location for the conference will be Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The deadline for submitting abstracts is January 26th, 2025.
The theme for the conference is “AI Ethics and Society.” This theme is meant to be broad and invite a range of perspectives on the interrelationship of its three parts—AI, ethics, and society.
Suggested topics include, but are not limited to, projects on the following:
· The ethics of applying AI technology within various fields or occupations
· The ethics of the impact of AI on the environment
· The ideological impact of AI technology
· The social impact of applying AI technology
· The politics of the development and upkeep of AI technology
· The effect of AI technology on education and pedagogy
· The effect of AI technology on epistemology
· The cultural impact of AI technology
The keynote address will be delivered by Kimberly Van Orman. Van Orman is a Lecturer and the undergraduate coordinator in the Institute for Artificial Intelligence at the University of Georgia. She teaches courses including. Artificial Intelligence, Ethics and AI, Philosophy of Mind and Cognitive Science. She received a grant from the National Humanities Center to develop a course on Responsible AI, now taught regularly. Her research areas include philosophy of mind, philosophy of science and the ethical implications of AI. She is also the chair of the Teaching and Learning Committee of the American Association of Philosophy Teachers.
Abstracts are to be prepared for presentations that will be 20 minutes long. Abstracts are to be 500 words or less and submitted via this submission form: https://forms.gle/3jFguvk7eZ3qh2sE7. Presenters will be paired with a commentator who will respond to their paper with 5 minutes for conversation. There will be a general Q&A that follows. Full papers will be due to commentators by March 22nd. Acceptances will be distributed by February 14th.
