2nd Edition of Gender, Diversity and Citizenship Colloquium

7-8th May, 2025 - University of Évora

The second edition of the Colloquium “Gender, Diversity and Citizenship” will take place on the 7th and 8th of May, at the University of Évora. It is organised by the Philosophy and Gender Centre (of the Portuguese Society of Philosophy) and by Praxis - Centre of Philosophy, Politics and Culture.

This 2nd edition will give continuity to the Colloquium organised in 2007, with the same title, which resulted in a homonymous publication (coord. Fernanda Henriques), in 2008. As  then, we want explore how gender manifests in various areas of public life: public space, migrations, ecology, new technologies, diversity. In this 2nd edition, we want also to assess the advances made in matters of diversity and gender equality in this time - almost two decades.

Women’s experiences and knowledge in these matters are still ignored and silenced; this initiative hopes to cultivate a space in academia and in the public sphere to, with our voices, keep the discussion alive about gender, diversity and citizenship, in the active participation for a more just society.

We invite the submission of proposals in two formats:

i) Panel submissions - communication of academic presentations and participation in a discussion panel.

The proposals for this format must include an abstract with up to 300 words, name, academic affiliation, contact email; and identify in which theme it is included (from the five listed below).

ii) Workshops: practical and creative activities, aimed at products with social impact.

The proposals for this format must include a description of the activity and expected result, up to 500 words, name, academic affiliation, contact email; and identify in which theme it is included (from the five listed below). If there is a team leading the activity, all  team members must be identified.

The proposals should be included in one of the following themes:

  • Women and public space
  • Women and migrations
  • Women and ecological questions
  • Women and new technologies
  • Women and diversity

The proposals should be sent by 28th February, 2025 to [email protected]

The results will be communicated by 31st March, 2025.
