The " Rethinking ToM and ASD " student conference aims to bring together students and researchers in philosophy of mind, cognitive science, linguistics, social cognition, developmental psychology, in order to advance our understanding of the role that theory of mind (ToM) plays in explaining social interaction difficulties in autism (if any). Our goal is to explore new approaches to ToM and analyze the ways in which these might bear on the theoretical and methodological paradigms for autism.
We welcome abstracts on the following topics:
- Embodied and enactive approaches to ASD
- Narrative practice hypothesis and its application to theories and research on autism
- Perceptual-action performance in ASD
- False belief tasks and Theory of Mind- does passing the false belief task really requires theory of mind? And if so, does it require only ToM or other abilities as well? Which may these be?
We encourage BA, MA and PhD students, as well as early PhD's and postdocs, to contribute research abstracts related to the event's topic areas. Abstracts should be written in English and should not exceed 300 words.
Abstracts will receive full consideration if sent before March 9th, 2025 at the following address: [email protected] Word or PDF attachments preferred, with the message titled "abstract submission".
All submissions will go through a process of blind peer review. (Please write your identifying details in the body of the email, and leave the attached abstract anonymized.) We intend notifications of acceptance to be sent out on or before March 9th, 2025. The conference programme will be announced as soon as review is completed.
For any questions, please don't hesitate to email [email protected]
You may register at the same address (or by RSVP here on PhilEvents) on or before March 20th in order to receive the Zoom connection details.
