The department of Philosophy at King's College London is pleased to invite submissions for a two day workshop presenting new work on reference, on the 23rd-24th of May, with a keynote speech from Eliot Michaelson (KCL) . We are accepting submissions on all aspects of reference, broadly construed. Topics of interest might include (though are not limited to):
- the relations between reference and other important notions in philosophy of language: truth, normativity, meaning, predication, etc
- theories of the nature of reference within different metasemantic frameworks (causal theories, inferentialism, formal theories of reference, etc.)
- varieties of reference in different modalities: mental, perpetual, linguistic, etc.
- varieties of reference in different media: pictorial reference, maps, etc.
- reference and vagueness
- names and naming
To submit please fill out the following form, with a 500-word abstract, by April the 20th: https://forms.gle/zos68X8rki43puyT9 Abstracts must be anonymised. The word count does not include any references or bibliography. Notification of acceptance will be sent by the 1st of May.
Please note: this workshop will be in-person only, and we will be unable to reimburse travel or accommodation expenses.
This workshop is organised in part collaboration with the Philosophy department at the university of Lund.
