CFP 2025 • TOPIC: CARE • DEADLINE: 15 DEC 2025
The paper should focus on any philosophical issues linked to the concept of care — a word whose etymology refers to other therms, e.g., curiosity — and as such, it invites contributions from several philosophical fields. Papers might refer to the relationship between care and time (Heidegger), or between the other and the self (Sartre), possibly with a focus on the role of the dialogue (Buber, Taylor). Care might be related to a means to control (Foucault). Generally, the concept of care is crucial in many ethical perspectives, e.g., responsibility (Lévinas, Jonas). It is also a key-element in philosophical anthropology, e.g., linked to the concept of love (Scheler, Ortega y Gasset). Care is also a term that is discussed in aesthetics (Nietzsche, Benjamin, Adorno, Byung-Chul Han). Care ethics might be also discussed from feminism (Gilligan, Tronto). Care has to do with important pedagogical and psychological theories (Winnicott, Piaget, Jung, Hillman). Possible analyses might focus on the role of technology and whether it has changed care, particularly in areas such as medicine, e.g., bioethics, or communication (Floridi). Care might be extended to other recipients, such as migrants, animals, and foster a discussion on environmental ethics. Care might be related to emotions (Nussbaum). Care might be explored from opposite elements, such as, disregard, disrespect, contempt, disdain, indifference, up to the extreme forms, e.g., violence. Papers might consider the relationship between care and tolerance. Finally, the role of care in religions might be a possible topic.
