What:   Music: The Perception of Relational Properties and their Aesthetic Significance

The relational properties perceived in listening to music are highly distinctive. The range of the properties perceived in music is much wider and richer than is commonly recognized; and their nature is different too. I argue that an appreciation of this range overturns some prominent conceptions of the nature and perception of music. An appreciation of the nature of the relational properties perceived can contribute to the explanation of the value and aesthetic interest of music. A positive theory of these properties can also provide resources and apparatus needed for proper articulations in the historical development of music, and in musical criticism.
