CALL FOR ABSTRACTS:
5th Central European Graduate Conference in Ancient Philosophy
8–10 October 2026, University of Vienna
The 5th Central European Graduate Conference in Ancient Philosophy, hosted by the University of
Vienna, continues a series of earlier conferences that took place at different universities of the CENTRAL-
Network (https://www.central-network.eu/who-we-are/). The aim of the conference is to bring together graduate
students based in Central Europe who are working on ancient Greco-Roman philosophy and/or its reception in
the Arabic tradition. Participants will have the opportunity to present their work and to receive a response from
an early-career or senior scholar working on related topics. Two keynote speakers will enrich the program by
presenting their current research:
Prof. Katerina Ierodiakonou (University of Geneva)
Dr. Robert Roreitner (Charles University, Prague)
We invite submissions from PhD students and early-career researchers (within two years of completing their
degree) in Philosophy, Classics, and/or Arabic Studies. Applicants from all countries are welcome, though
financial support may be limited to students from CENTRAL-Network universities (Charles University Prague,
Humboldt University Berlin, ELTE Budapest, University of Vienna, University of Warsaw).
Submission guidelines
Abstracts should be 500–1000 words in length, with the central thesis presented in the first paragraph.
Please prepare your abstract as a PDF for anonymous review.

o year of study.
Abstracts should be submitted by 30 September 2025 to [email protected].
Applicants will be notified of the decision by 31 October 2025. Successful applicants will be asked to submit a
full paper by 27 August 2026, and to prepare a 30-minute presentation.
