The School of Philosophy at Zhejiang University is happy to invite submissions for our 5th Workshop on Philosophy of Emotions, dedicated to the theme of grief, to be held on June 5th, 2026.
We welcome submissions that explore grief and related topics, including but not limited to:
· the nature and normative aspects of grief, such as its rationality or morality
· death, value, and meanings in life
· grief, self-identity, and immortality
· individual and collective grief
· grief in the age of technology
· grief in non-human animals
· grief and its relation to other emotions, such as love, guilt, or regret
We encourage contributions from a wide range of philosophical traditions, including philosophy of emotions, normative ethics, moral psychology, phenomenology, feminist perspective, and various non-Western perspectives.

Submission guidelines
· Abstracts: 750-1,000 words, prepared for anonymous review, suitable for a 30-minute presentation (followed by 20 minutes of discussion).
· Pre-workshop Symposium: On June 4th, there will be a symposium on Michael Cholbi’s book Grief: A Philosophical Guide (2022). Interested commentators should submit a 300-word proposal for a 10-15 minutes presentation.
