Philosophers Reflecting on AI

The Department of Philosophy at the University of New Orleans invites submissions for its upcoming conference, AI and Philosophy. This is a one-day conference where philosophers are invited to discuss issues related to AI. We believe that philosophers have a crucial role in reflecting on AI and this conference will provide an academic environment to do so at our campus in the beautiful city of New Orleans.

Possible topics include (but not limited to):

·      What is Artificial Intelligence? Definitions of AI.

·      What is an algorithm?

·      Can AI systems be moral agents?

·      What are the moral issues provoked by AI?

·      How is AI different from human cognition?

·      Can AI be conscious?

·      Can AI be a person?

·      Is AI intelligent?

·      Can there be AI art?

·      How is AI represented in popular media?

·      Questions of AI and authorship.

·      Classical philosophers and artificial reasoning (Aristotle, Descartes, Kant)

·      Can AI be used to promote moral behavior?

·      Can AI be used in Academic Philosophy?

·      Using AI for teaching and learning.

Submission Guidelines

·      Abstracts: Proposals should be sent in the form of an abstract with a maximum of 500 words.

·      Submission Deadline: January 20, 2026
