Purpose of open peer commentaries
The target article/open peer commentary format of Sport, Ethics and Philosophy offers a forum for focused, constructive dialogue between the authors of the target article and scholars wishing to engage it critically.
Open peer commentaries must consistently uphold a tone of respect and collegiality, focusing on one or more of the following goals:
Offer a substantive and constructive analysis of the authors’ arguments-commentaries that consist solely of or emphasize negative criticism will receive less consideration.
Interpret and, if appropriate, extend or refine key concepts.
Supply complementary or supplementary material (e.g., schematic figures or illustrative examples) that deepens the discussion.
Guidelines
Length: 500-1,500 words (inclusive of notes).
References: Maximum of 10, formatted according to Sport, Ethics and Philosophy style. Note: Authors submitting shorter commentaries (~500 words) may be required to reduce the number of references to reflect the length and scope of the piece.
Proposal requirement: Interested commentators must first submit a short proposal (150-250 words) outlining the main thesis, intended structure, and 3-4 key sources, accompanied by a brief bio (80–100 words).
