This year's Philosophers' Rally will be preceded by a special workshop revolving around the topic of content: From Content to Contents and Back .

“What is content?” – this short question happens to be one of the most complex and important ones addressed in the contemporary philosophy of language and mind. Recent discussions concerning the notion of content revolve around the idea of content pluralism: many philosophers assume that it is in principle possible for a single utterance or thought to express (without being ambiguous) contents of different types (moderate contextualism) as well as to express different contents of a single type (pluripropositionalism). The aim of the workshop is to critically examine various assumptions made by these theories and their rivals.

We would like to invite undergraduate and postgraduate students, post-docs and professional academics to take part in the workshop that is scheduled for the 2nd of July, 2014 (the day before the Philosophers' Rally 2014). The invitation is addressed both to persons interested in attending the workshop (without submitting a talk) and to those interested in joining the group of workshop speakers (up to 3 additional slots for submitted papers are available).

The list of invited guests includes:

Isidora Stojanovic (Universitat Pompeu Fabra/Institut Jean-Nicod),
Joanna Odrowąż-Sypniewska (Institute od Philosophy, University of Warsaw),
Leszek Wroński (Institute of Philosophy, Jagiellonian University),
Piotr Wilkin (Intitute of Philosophy, University of Warsaw).

Each speaker is going to present an interactive lecture which will be followed by a discussion.

We intend to enrich the list of talks with additional submitted papers. The deadline for abstract submissions is 31st of May, 2014. Abstracts no shorter than 500 words should be sent to zlot[at]obf.edu.pl (replace “[at]” with “@”). We are planning to include two or three additional speakers depending on the number and quality of submitted abstracts.

All persons interested in participating in the workshop (with or without submitting an abstract) are kindly asked to register by sending an e-mail entitled 'Workshop registration' including their name and affiliation to: zlot[at]obf.edu.pl. Since the number of places is limited, we recommend to do this as quickly as possible.

The workshop language is English.
