Details

Higher-order metaphysics is a growing movement at the intersection of metaphysics and philosophical logic. It is characterized by the use of higher-order formal languages in philosophical theorizing—typically in metaphysics, but with important applications in the philosophy of language and mind.

Since 2016, a series of workshops have provided a dedicated venue for philosophers working in higher-order metaphysics to share their research and engage with a wider community. HOMeWork 9 will continue this tradition at Johns Hopkins University on September 25–26, 2026 (Friday–Saturday).

We invite submissions of extended abstracts (anything from a couple of paragraphs to a full paper) prepared for anonymous review. We welcome submissions, on any philosophical topic, that are about or make use of higher-order languages—broadly construed. Abstracts should be submitted through the following form:

Deadline for submissions: May 15, 2026

Notification of acceptance: Early June, 2026
