Overview

We invite submissions for a Topical Collection of Synthese on Applied Issues in Current Philosophy

of Language: Language, Power and Social Justice. This collection aims to explore the social,

political, and ethical dimensions of language, with particular attention to how linguistic practices

both shape and reflect structures of power, identity, and social relations.

Topics of Interest

The collection welcomes contributions addressing a wide range of topics, including (but not limited

to):

• Discursive injustice and linguistic harm (e.g., gaslighting, deadnaming, harmful speech)

• Non-ideal communicative contexts and complex speech acts

• Political language and evaluative discourse

• The language of disagreement and the social dimensions of meaning

• Normative approaches to harmful speech, including conceptual engineering

• Intersections between philosophy of language, social epistemology, and political philosophy
