North American Society for Social Philosophy at the 2027 APA Pacific

Artificial Intelligence: Is the Love Affair Over, Never Started, or Just Beginning?

NASSP plans to host two affiliated group sessions during the APA Pacific Division Meeting on March 24-27, 2027, in Portland, Oregon. The theme for these sessions is Artificial Intelligence: Is the Love Affair Over, Never Started, or Just Beginning? This year’s theme invites presentations on the ethics and philosophy of artificial intelligence, particularly as it relates to AI’s impact on different areas of social interaction. 

Possible topics on this year’s theme include:

• Philosophy and ethics of AI and emerging technologies
• AI, education, academic integrity, authorship, institutional policy, the purposes of education, including philosophy education
• AI, labor, employment, including displacement and automation, deskilling, surveillance, task enhancement, and meaningful work
• The use of AI in healthcare, mental health, and caregiving, including questions of effectiveness, autonomy, and professional responsibility
• The use of AI in law enforcement and other public institutions, algorithms, bias, and structural injustice
• AI, humanity, agency, consciousness, emotions, and social relationships
• AI security, privacy, transparency, responsibility, and accountability
• Big tech, misinformation, environmental impact, corporate social responsibility, and democratic governance
