Call for abstracts:

Thinking the Unthinkable invites submissions of abstracts for presentations addressing paradox from logical, philosophical, mathematical, linguistic, historical, and interdisciplinary perspectives. We welcome contributions examining the structure and significance of paradoxes, their role in the development of logical theory, and the challenges they pose for our understanding of truth, consistency, meaning, and rational thought. Possible topics include, but are not limited to:

• The logical structure of paradoxes
• Semantic, logical, and set-theoretic paradoxes
• The Liar and related semantic paradoxes
• Russell’s paradox and the foundations of mathematics
• Paradoxes of implication and consequence
• Paradoxes of self-reference
• Paradoxes of language and meaning
• Paradoxes in mathematics and the sciences
• Non-classical logical approaches to paradox
• Formal theories of truth and semantic parad
• Type theories, hierarchies, and restrictions on self-reference
• Logical pluralism and paradox
• Paradox and theories of consequence
• Historical approaches to paradox, from antiquity to contemporary logic
• The role of paradox in the development of modern logic and mathematics
• Paradox and the limits of formalisation

We particularly welcome contributions that combine formal and philosophical approaches, examining not only how paradoxes can be represented and treated within logical systems, but also what they reveal about the nature and limits of reasoning, language, truth, and thought.
