Social Ontology and Collective Intentionality 2027

The International Social Ontology Society annual conference

The conference will be held in person in the Music Building on the campus of Ohio State University, Columbus, Ohio USA from July 27-30 (free air-conditioning).  

First Announcement

Social Ontology & Collective Intentionality 2027, an interdisciplinary conference on social ontology. 

Abstracts of 300-500 words (prepared for anonymous review) should be submitted through EasyChair starting in mid-October.  A link will be posted here soon.

Deadline for submission: January 11.

Notification of acceptance: February 15.

For Junior Scholars:

Essay Prize:

Junior scholars (in graduate school or received PhD within 5 years of the closing date) are eligible for the ISOS Philosophy Essay Prize for Young Scholars. The prize includes an invitation to present as a keynote at Social Ontology 2027, publication in the Journal of Social Ontology, and a €500 award.

Summer School: Social Ontology

Junior scholars will also have the opportunity when submitting to signal an interest/desire to participate in a day-long summer school session before the conference on July 26th.

Topics include, but are not limited to:

• Approaches to the metaphysics of the social world
• Collective intentions, shared agency, and group action
• Collective and distributed responsibility
• The nature of institutions, firms, and corporations
• Metaphysics of race and gender
• Metaphysics of money and markets
• Nature of law and legal applications of social ontology
• Ontological aspects of critical social theory
• Social Ontology and Normative Theory

Interdisciplinary contributions are encouraged!
