CALL FOR PAPERS

Location: All sessions will be held on the campus of East Carolina University in Greenville, NC. The nearest airport, which is a regional airport in Greenville itself, is the Pitt-Greenville Airport (PGV). The Coastal Carolina Regional Airport (EWN) is about 46 miles (about an hour) from Greenville. The nearest international airport is Raleigh-Durham International Airport (RDU), which is about 90 miles (between 1.5-2 hours) from Greenville. Additional information about lodging options near the conference venue will be communicated after acceptance.

Submissions: Abstracts of approximately 500 words on any philosophical topic are welcome. All abstracts should be anonymized and should include a title along with several keywords or categories. The deadline to send submission is February 1, 2027. Authors of accepted papers will be notified by the end of February.

What to send us: All submissions should be formatted for blind review—please attached anonymized abstracts to the email—and sent to [email protected]. In the body of the email, please provide your name, institutional affiliation (if any), status (e.g., faculty, graduate student, undergraduate, etc.), and contact information. If you wish your paper to be considered for a prize (see below), please note this and indicate whether you are an untenured faculty member, graduate student, or undergraduate.

Panels: Panel proposals on any topic in philosophy, including its pedagogy, are welcome. Prospective panel organizers should submit proposals that include a brief, anonymized overview of the topic, an explanation of the panel’s format, anonymized abstracts of approximately 300 words for each of the papers to be presented, and the names and affiliations of all participants. Each panel must involve a pre-organized set of 2 to 3 papers on a particular theme or topic. Each accepted panel would be allotted 90 minutes in total.

Undergraduate Papers: A sufficient number of undergraduate submissions will allow for a session devoted to papers by undergraduates. Undergraduates should send both abstracts and papers of approximately 3,000 words in length. Undergraduate submissions should be clearly labeled as such.

Format: Accepted papers likely will be allotted 20 minutes for presentation with 10 minutes of Q&A.

Prizes: We plan to award a $200 prize for the best paper submitted by an untenured faculty member, a $150 prize for the best paper submitted by a graduate student, and a $125 prize for the best undergraduate paper. (Awarding of prizes is contingent on an adequate number of submissions.) Faculty, graduate students, and unaffiliated scholars: if you would like to be considered for a prize, please be prepared to submit a paper of approximately 3,000 words to [email protected] by February 15, 2027 (in addition to submitting an abstract by February 1, 2027).

More Information: Periodic updates about the conference, accommodations, and information about the NCPS, can be found at http://www.northcarolinaphilosophicalsociety.org/.
