Details

The Moral Methodology Workshop will bring together philosophers working on questions related to methodology in ethical inquiry. While philosophical methodology has received greater attention in recent years, there remain methodological questions in ethical theory that require more research. In particular, there are questions regarding how to craft moral thought-experiments which produce more reliable judgments, what counts as evidence in ethics (intuitions, emotions, perceptions, etc.), and how evidence should be weighed when building an ethical theory. By bringing together those examining these and related questions, the workshop will advance the study of moral methodology.

The two-day workshop will be hosted at the University of British Columbia’s Vancouver campus by the Philosophy Department between April 17-18th, 2027. The papers presented at the workshop will be circulated to participants in advance. Sessions will be about an hour long, including a Q&A. Those interested in presenting must submit an abstract; presenters will be selected based on the abstracts and invited to submit finished papers in advance of the workshop.

Extended abstract submissions should be prepared for blind review, be no longer than three double-spaced pages, and submitted in either the .docx or .pdf file format. Abstracts are due by December 15th, 2026. Verdicts on the abstracts will be sent by January 30th, 2027. Completed papers will be due by March 15th, 2027.

Please send abstract submissions and questions via email to workshop organizer Eric Wilkinson: [email protected]
