About the Series
Very often encounters between philosophers and psychoanalysts are philosophical examinations of the proprietary concepts of psychoanalysis, with psychoanalysts supplying the data for an investigation which is carried out by philosophers. This series aims at a less asymmetrical form of engagement between the two types of inquiry, by selecting topics which are proprietary to neither but of common interest to both. To this end, speakers are asked to make sure they present their ideas in a way that is accessible not only to fellow specialists, but to a mixed clinical and academic audience from a range of disciplinary backgrounds. The series is thus equally suited to philosophers (including graduate students in philosophy), clinicians (including those seeking Continuing Professional Development), and to trainees.
Each seminar will last two hours (19:00 – 21:00) and consist of a paper and a response, followed by an hour's discussion. Whenever the paper is presented by a philosopher, the response will be from a clinician and vice versa.
