Moral psychology is a growing interdisciplinary field spanning normative and meta-ethics, philosophical psychology, empirical psychology, neuroscience, and other fields. Among the central phenomena studied by moral psychologists are preferences, wellbeing, responsibility, bias and prejudice, emotions, character and virtue, values, and moral disagreement.
Mark Alfano's book, Moral Psychology: An Introduction (Polity) will appear in early 2016. This book distinguishes itself by delving deeply into the relevant science, arguing for novel theories about wellbeing, technological interventions to enhance responsibility, technologies for studying emotions, and so on.
The event will feature five guest speakers, each of whom will comment on one of the main chapters of the book. These speakers are:
Chapter 1 on preferences and wellbeing: Philip Pärnamets (Stockholm)
Chapter 2 on responsibility, bias, and prejudice: Natalia Washington (Washington University in St. Louis)
Chapter 3 on emotions: Michael Lacewing (Heythrop)
Chapter 4 on character: Lily Frank (Eindhoven)
Chapter 5 on values and moral disagreement: Sven Nyholm (Eindhoven)
Philosophers, psychologists, and other relevant researchers from TU Delft and other institutions in are invited to attend. The event will be followed by a reception.
