Virtue: Ancient and Modern

Keynote address by Dr. Lawrence J. Jost, University of Cincinnati

The University of Kentucky's Philosophy Graduate Student Association invites graduate student paper submissions on the topic of virtue

We are especially interested in papers addressing the concept of virtue, virtue ethics, morality, habituation, character, and notions of goodness by which theories of virtue could be oriented.  We request that each paper help to create space for thinking about historical shifts and contrasts in assumptions between ancient and modern conceptions.  Continental, analytic, historical, and contemporary approaches are all welcomed.  Presentations will be followed by commentary from a graduate student.

Submission guidelines: - Papers should be suitable for a 20-25 minute presentation, up to 3,000 words - Two documents must be submitted: 1.) paper prepared for blind review; 2.) cover letter containing a.) name, b.) institutional affiliation, c.) email address, d.) title of paper - These two documents should be submitted in .doc, .docx, or .pdf form to [email protected] by Friday, January 6th, 2017

Submissions due: Friday, January 6th, 2017 (results announced later in January)
