Workshop on the Philosophy of Cognitive Science

(WPCS 2017)

WPCS 2017 is organized by the Cognition, Language and Perception Research Group (CLP) based in the Philosophy Institute, School of Humanities, University of BuenosAires (UBA).

Meeting description

Recent years have seen a growing awareness of the importance of an interdisciplinary approach to understand the mind/brain. This workshop aims to promote an international forum to share knowledge, issues, and challenges at the interface of philosophy and the cognitive sciences. Some examples of relevant topics are: computation and representation, artificial intelligence, rationality, cognitive architecture, explanation in brain and cognitive science, concepts, perception, language, and consciousness, inter alia. Although we are open to contributions from any area of the philosophy of cognitive science, we look forward to receiving contributions addressing the following areas of inquiry:

- Philosophy of Psychology

- Philosophy of Psychiatry and Psychopathology

- Philosophy of Neuroscience

- Philosophy of Linguistics

- Philosophy of Perception

- Philosophy of Mind 

- Philosophy of Computer Science

- Philosophy of Consciousness Studies

- Philosophy of Animal Cognition

Guidelines for submission

We invite all those interested to send in submissions for 40-minute presentations in English or Spanish –including discussion. Submissions should take the form of a 1500-word abstract presenting the main argument. Submissions should be sent by email in an attached .doc, .pdf or .rtf file to [email protected]. Authors’ names and affiliation should be given only in the text of the e-mail message. The abstracts will be blind reviewed by the academic committee.

Deadline for reception of submissions: July 31, 2017

Notification of acceptance/rejection: September 1, 2017

Official languages

English and Spanish. There will not be simultaneous translation.

Free registration is required.
