Call for Papers: Revisiting Richard Rorty

Universidade do Minho, Braga (Portugal)

25-26 September, 2017

Keynote speaker: Robert Brandom (University of Pittsburgh)

We welcome papers and panels submissions for a conference on Richard Rorty to be held in Braga, Portugal, at the 25-26 of September. In light of his influential work, life, and thought, the Political Theory Group of the University of Minho mark the tenth anniversary of his passing with a conference in his honor.

Richard Rorty addressed issues widely discussed today, paying special attention to those at the crossroad between politics and epistemology: truth in times of post-truth, the possible consequences of a spectatorial academic Left (in Achieving our Country), the growing awareness of the importance of language-games in today’s politics, and so on. Proposals on these topics are welcome, though we also welcome any subject related to Rorty’s thought: metaphilosophy, anti-representationalism, neopragmatism, religion, science, analytic philosophy vs. continental philosophy, human rights, feminism, sentimental education, the importance of literature, etc.. Naturally, all critical perspectives on his work are also welcome.

Please submit papers or panel proposals of no more than 500 words (in English, Portuguese or Spanish), a short CV, institutional affiliation, and email by May 15 to: [email protected]

Confirmation date: May 31.

Conference Fee:

Non tenure-track scholars (adjuncts, part-time lecturers, postdocs): €50
