A small but growing body of work connects the theme of memory with that of the self and/or self-consciousness: autonoesis and owneship of memories; alternating perspectives in episodic memory; memory judgements and immunity from error; introspection and its relation to 'retrospection'. Against this backdrop this one-day workshop aims to explore historical and contemporary connections between the themes of memory, self, and self-knowledge. The workshop  seeks to attract papers that aim to advance our understanding of any of the three themes and those that explore connections between the concepts.

A number of sessions are available for submitted papers. If you would like to present at the workshop, please submit an abstract of no more than 1,000 words by 6 October 2017

Potential topics include (but are not limited to):
Autonoesis and ownership of memories
Historical perspectives on the main themes
Immunity from error in memory judgements
Introspection and retrospection
Memory and first-person privilege
Non-western philosophical perspectives on the main themes
self-consciousness and memory
self-regulation

Authors of successful submissons will be informed by (approx.) 13 October 2017

Please email abstracts and informal queries to robert.davies [at] york.ac.uk
