Submission deadline: November 19, 2011
December 1, 2011 - December 3, 2011
University of Sydney
The aim of this conference is to foster greater dialogue concerning
refugees and asylum seekers in Australia. Papers may cover a wide range
of topics, including law and policy, history, social justice and human
rights, questions of Diaspora and national identity, mental health,
literature and aesthetics, and refugee advocacy. This will be a unique
opportunity to enhance academic cooperation for the study of refugee and
asylum seeker issues.
The conference will be held in conjunction with an exhibition of original artworks by asylum seekers from detention. Proceedings will conclude with a concert of performances by Iranian, Turkish, Afghan and Australian musicians. Presenters have the opportunity to publish in an upcoming special issue of Literature and Aesthetics, dedicated to refugee themes.
Attendance fee: $50 for non-presenters, which includes lunch, tea, coffee, refreshments and evening concert.
Concert only fee: $25.
All profits go to refugee support activities conducted by The Refugee Art Project.
Abstracts for presentations at the conference are due by 18 November 2011.
