Nancy E. Snow, Director of the Institute for the Study of Human Flourishing and Professor of Philosophy at the University of Oklahoma

  • Talk titled “Compassion, Empathy, and Prosocial Behavior”

Gustavo Carlo, Millsap Professor of Diversity at the Department of Human Development and Family Science at the University of Missouri

  • Talk titled “Prosociality in Culture: Links Between Moral Emotions and Cultural Values”

Michael Frazer, Lecturer in Political and Social Theory in the School of Politics, Philosophy, Language, and Communication Studies at the University of East Anglia, UK

  • Talk titled “Challenges and Opportunities in the Interdisciplinary Study of Empathy”

The teleconference is organized by the following questions:

  • What are the relations between empathy, compassion, and prosociality? 
  • How important are emotions for human morality?
  • What is the role of empathy in communication? 
  • What is the role of empathy in human life? 

We welcome submissions related to the above questions, as well as experienced commentators for keynote speakers (paper submission optional for commentators). Papers should be no longer than 3000 words, and prepared for blind review. All submissions should be made via e-mail attachment, due August 15, 11PM (EST).  Please include the following information on a cover page in a separate file:

1.      Title of paper

2.      Abstract (250 words max.)

3.      Author's name

4.      Author's institutional affiliation

5.      Author's email address

6.      Please indicate whether you would be willing to serve as a commentator on the work of a keynote speaker, and specify which speaker(s).

The paper and cover page should be sent in .doc, .docx, .pdf, .txt., or .rtf format to the Program Chair, Christopher Caulfield:  EMPATHYCONF@GMAIL.COM 

Public live viewing will be available by video teleconference using Zoom, and video audience will be invited to ask questions during discussion. For video link updates visit www.phipod.com
