Details

Recent years have witnessed a flourishing of interest in the philosophy of disagreement, especially within epistemology (see, e.g., Frances and Matheson 2018 for a survey). This workshop will explore a variety of issues about disagreement including the underlying nature of disagreement and its implications for ethics and law. Topics to be addressed will include:

-Is disagreement among attitudes other than belief possible?

-How should we characterize the notion of an ‘epistemic peer’?

-Is there something distinctive about philosophical disagreement?

-How can the epistemology of disagreement help us to understand conflicting testimony in legal proceedings?
