WPCNN 2019 is organized by GIFICC (Philosophy of Cognitive Science Research Group), Philosophy Institute, School of Humanities, University of Buenos Aires (UBA), Director: Liza Skidelsky, and the Neuroethics Program, Center of Philosophical Research (CIF), Director : Arleen Salles.

Meeting description

Recent years have seen a growing awareness of the importance of an interdisciplinary approach to understand the mind/brain. This workshop aims to promote an international forum to share knowledge, issues, and challenges in the fields of cognitive neuroscience and neuroethics. Although we are open to contributions from any area of the philosophy of cognitive neuroscience and neuroethics, we look forward to receiving contributions addressing the following topics of inquiry:

-Neural representation

-Externalism and internalism in Cognitive Neuroscience

-Neurocognitive models of concepts, perception, language, etc.

-Explanation in brain and cognitive science 

-Consciousness and disorders of consciousness 

-Neuroscientific contribution to unveiling human identity

-Neuronal epigenesis and moral change

-Neuroscience and free will

Guidelines for submission

We invite all those interested to send in submissions for 40-minute presentations in English or Spanish –including discussion. Submissions should take the form of a 1500-word abstract presenting the main argument. Submissions should be sent by e-mail in an attached .doc, .pdf or .rtf file to [email protected] . Authors’ names and affiliation should be given only in the text of the e-mail message. The abstracts will be blind reviewed by the academic committee.

Deadline for reception of submissions:  September 20, 2019 

Notification of acceptance/rejection: October 21, 2019

Official languages 

English and Spanish. There will not be simultaneous translation. 

Free in-person registration at the workshop.

Venue: Biblioteca del C3-Centro Cultural de la Ciencia, Polo Científico Tecnológico, Godoy Cruz 2270. Monday and Tuesday: 9am-18pm, Wednesday 9am-12:30pm.
