This talk will introduce some of the key ideas of the Danish philosopher and K. E. Løgstrup (1905-1981). Robert Stern will outline the main themes in Løgstrup’s central work The Ethical Demand (1956), and then explain how he approached Løgstrup work in his new book The Radical Demand in Løgstrup’s Ethics (Oxford University Press, 2019). A particular focus will be the way in which Løgstrup accounts for our obligations to others, based on our mutual vulnerability and interdependence.
