WORKSHOP ON CONSCIOUSNESS, MODELS AND THE ARTIFICIAL - EXTENDED DEADLINE
Creativity 2019, Rio de Janeiro, December 8-13
https://sites.google.com/view/creativity2019

What is consciousness? What are its distinguishing features? How is it connected with the brain? Can it be simulated or reproduced in a machine? These are some of the pressing questions that arise when we think deeply about consciousness. In one sense, they all invite us to engage in the enterprise of model building, in this case, the building of models of a specific slice of reality (in fact the slice we are most familiar with). As such, their end product will always involve some kind of artifice.

The purpose of this workshop is to gather together philosophers, computer scientists, mathematicians, psychologists and neuroscientists to advance in the discussion on consciousness and the artificial.

We invite submissions of proposals including, but not limited, to:

- Models of consciousness
- Consciousness and the philosophy of mind
- Machine consciousness
- Consciousness and artificial intelligence
- Consciousness and machine learning
- Ethical and other philosophical issues of conscious AI systems
- Consciousness and rationality
