An international conference on the topic "Understanding Progress and Progress in Understanding" will be held at the University of Iceland on June 19th and June 20th, 2020.
Confirmed invited speakers include Catherine Elgin (Harvard), Henk De Regt (Radboud) and Michael Strevens (NYU).
The conference is hosted by the project ‘Understanding Progress, in Science and Beyond’, which is a three-year project based at the University of Iceland, generously funded by the Icelandic Research Fund (Rannís). Project description:
We invite abstract submissions on the following (non-exhaustive) list of possible topics:
- Scientific understanding (understanding in science)
- Philosophical understanding (understanding in philosophy)
- Scientific progress (progress in science)
- Philosophical progress (progress in philosophy)
- The epistemology of understanding
- Understanding and explanation
Please submit two anonymized abstracts: an extended abstract of 1000 words (excluding bibliography) and a short abstract of 150 words here: https://www.easychair.org/cfp/uppu2020.
The deadline for submission is February 1st, 2020. We aim to send notifications of acceptance by February 22nd, 2020.
Funding: We will seek to reimburse travel and accomodation costs up to a maximum of 600 EUR for at least two junior scholars whose abstracts are accepted for presentation. Please apply for this reimbursement after our notification of acceptance by sending an email to [email protected], attaching a CV with your current employment status.
